Doing Some Research

Tom,

Are you by any chance the same person my Aunt Mary Mahony McClintock used to talk about so fondly?

Her sister Margaret was my mother. I believe their father -- my grandfather -- was Anthony, the son of Kain Mahony. Anthony married Katherine Flynn, also from Castleisland and move to New York City sometime before 1908 when my mother was born. But other than that I know few details and was wondering if you could provide any more information.

Thank you, and sorry to have taken up your time if I’m off track.

Rod,

No, I am not, but it is likely the Tom who lives near me, in Valhalla, NY. Like you, he descends from the same line of Castleisland Mahonys; the Kain Mahony line, of which Anthony (1876-1943) is the son of Kain (1828). See Table 2 http://www.tommahony.com/table_2.htm on my site. Tom is the son of Michael Mahony (1895), who was a son of Kane (1862), which means Anthony is Tom's grand uncle and that you and he are third cousins.

If Anthony is your grandfather, you and I share a common ancestor in Kain & Margaret Sullivan Mahony (your great great grandparents and my great great great grandparents), which would make us 3rd cousins once-removed.

I spoke with Tom several years ago when I was doing my research and he sent me an extensive, handwritten genealogy of his family that I was able to connect to mine through Kain (1828), who was a brother of my great great grandfather Abel (1824). In his notes he told me I should contact Mary Mahony McClintock, who at the time was 89. At the time I took an extended break from my genealogy research, and I regret not calling her. According to Tom she was a wealth of family information. In the tree he made for me he shows Anthony and Mary Flynn Mahony as having one child, Mary (1906). What year was your mother born?

I do not have an e-mail address for Tom. Here is what I have: Thomas Mahony 10 Norwood St., Valhalla NY 10595. Very nice man and very willing to help in any research.

I would greatly appreciate any family dates, details, etc. that you have that might further my research, and I will gladly do the same in return. I need to put Tom's letter to me on the website, so I should get to that soon. Keep checking back to the site.

Regards,
